Solana gets the default spot for stablecoins at FDIC-insured bank

Column, an FDIC-member U.S. bank, has launched stablecoin support built directly into its banking core, allowing customers to send, receive and convert stablecoins like USDC and USDT into and out of U.S. dollars instantly, around the clock. Solana, a high-speed blockchain network designed for fast and low-cost transactions, is the default network for stablecoin activity on the platform, with support for Ethereum and other major chains also available. Stablecoins are widely used for payments, trading and moving money across borders, but until now have relied on third-party intermediaries to bridge the gap between the blockchain and the traditional banking system. Solana as the default rail Column chose Solana as its default chain for stablecoin transactions. Amelia Daly, head of partnerships at the Solana Foundation, said the integration marks a shift from theory to production. "Column made them native to a bank with Solana as the default network, and moved the frontier of financial services from theory into production," Daly told TheStreet Roundtable. The choice reflects Solana's growing position in stablecoin infrastructure. One ledger, no middlemen Column's approach eliminates the gap between blockchain and banking. Because stablecoins are built directly into its own infrastructure, a customer's stablecoin address and bank account sit on the same ledger. Conversions between stablecoins and dollars happen instantly with no prefunding required, the company said. A customer can receive USDC at 9 p.m. on a Saturday and pay it out over the RTP instant payment network to any U.S. bank account within seconds. The product is already scaling, with tens of billions in annualized volume, Column said. Related: Elon Musk is finally putting Dogecoin on the moon today
