Teams then assembled every stage of the weapon system—including propulsion modules, structural components, protective fairing, and associated equipment—into a unified vertical structure on a designated test platform. Following successful assembly completion, the missile was disassembled. The primary objective was demonstrating that all components could be properly integrated and that personnel could safely manage and assemble the system at an operational launch facility. The Pathfinder operation also validated specialized transportation equipment, mobile lifting crane procedures, and launch pad connection systems. Critical Design Validation Achieved Concurrent with the assembly operation, Northrop Grumman partnered with the Air Force’s 719th Test Squadron to complete the initial Critical Flight Design Review. This evaluation verified that the missile’s engineering maturity and component validation satisfy all Air Force criteria for operational capability, safety protocols, and program timeline. “This vertical assembly demonstrates the momentum toward test launching Sentinel in 2027 and having missiles on alert by the early 2030s,” said Amanda Davis, vice president and general manager of strategic deterrent systems at Northrop Grumman.
