# What is peaq (PEAQ)? peaq is the economic system enabling robots and machines to do business on every chain. It provides a neutral, omnichain coordination layer that gives machines, including robots, vehicles, devices, sensors, and AI agents, everything they need to become autonomous economic actors with verifiable identities, wallets, portable reputation, tokenization, and cross-chain settlement guarantees.

peaq is chain-neutral by design, operating as the shared trust and coordination layer for machines across existing blockchains. A machine onboarded through peaq exists across all supported chains simultaneously. Any application on any chain can discover, verify, and transact with that machine without rebuilding infrastructure from scratch.

peaq's mission is to make machines financially autonomous for the benefit of humanity, underpinning a human-centric Machine Economy where the value created by machines is owned and shared by the people who build, operate, and inhabit it.

# How does peaq work? peaq is structured in three layers. Each can be used independently. Together, they form the economic foundation of the Machine Economy.

The Machine Layer (peaqOS) is the universal entry point for any machine to come onchain as a composable economic actor. It provides verifiable identity, omnichain wallets, access control, service registration, tokenization, time synchronization, data verification, and payment infrastructure, all chain-agnostic across EVM, SVM, and Move environments.

The Trust Layer makes machines trustworthy across all chains. It manages shared registries, claims, and settlement logic, and enforces economic accountability through a decentralized network of Trust Validators. They verify identities, evaluate transactions, compute reputation scores, and provide cross-chain attestations, all backed by staked capital.

The Service Layer connects machines to external service markets through a permissionless adapter framework. It discovers providers, scores them against reputation and cost, composes execution plans, and settles outcomes. Any provider can build an adapter and become discoverable to every machine in the system.

# What makes peaq unique? Omnichain neutrality. peaq does not compete with Ethereum, Solana, or any other chain for execution. It provides the shared trust layer beneath them. A machine can access the best services anywhere across chains and providers, carrying its identity and reputation everywhere it goes.
